Brackish water lapped lazily against the dazzling white shore, like thick soup.
The skeleton of an old fishing boat lay among salt-encrusted driftwood like bleached bones. First the fishermen had left their village, and eventually the salters as well.
Thraen has two oceans that lie opposite each other on Thraen’s equator:
the White Sea and the Silent Sea.
Both of Thraen’s oceans are named after their prevailing weather conditions.
On the Silent Sea, the weather is usually very calm. Storms and heavy swells are rare. Sailors and fishermen often have to contend with long calms.
When standing on the shore of one sea, one cannot see the other in the sky because it is obscured by Beeledhan’s Eye. Only at the longitudes of the Wind Pole or the Salthras Pole is it possible to view both seas simultaneously.
The mighty capital of the Cities of Shenna, built of salt and tears to rule the Silent Sea.
With its heavily fortified harbor, Kolpennion is home to the largest fleet on the Silent Sea and Darinth’s eternal rival.
As the weakest of the three great cities, Zhef prides itself on being at least the most beautiful of them all.
The people of the small town atop Salter’s Rock hope to one day belong to the Cities of Shenna as well.
